SNRP VFMS: Communication and Visualization

The Communication and Visualization module provides for each vehicle equipped with vehicular unit (on-board computer) services such as voice communication, data transfer, localization and positioning on digital map of the city in the dispatch center.

Voice Communication and Data Transfer

Communication on short ranges is realized via WLAN (infrastructure on the depot), while long ranges covering the area of a whole city, through a dedicated analog UHF/VHF or digital DMR, GSM or TETRA networks. Vehicular Unit can use both types of communication infrastructure simultaneously to receive automatic on-board computers' software updates.

SNRP VFMS - Short-range Communication

Each time the vehicle leaves the depot, the short-range communication is used to transmit current transportation tasks, timetables and divisions to the on-board computer. At the end of the day, the vehicle uses same infrastructure to upload data gathered through the day, such as the routes travelled, speeds (Speed Control module) or number of passengers (Passenger Counting module) to central server.

SNRP VFMS - Long-range Communication

Long-range communication enables bidirectional voice and data transmission between dispatch center and each vehicle located anywhere in the city area with a help of single radio base station located in the center of the covered area. Communication module allows updating transportation tasks while the vehicle is on the road (e.g. changes on the route due to accident or road works) as well as transmitting text and graphic information displayed on driver's panel or on the LCD boards inside passenger compartment (Passenger Information module).

Visualization module

Each vehicle is equipped with a GPS receiver, which transmits position to dispatch center through a communication module. Data from each vehicle is collected by central software and displayed on a digital map with additional information such as the vehicle's status calculated by the Timetables Control module or a passenger load computed by Passenger Counting module.
